CFBISD provides tips to stay healthy during flu season

Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD is committed to the health and well-being of its students, staff and families. To help support our community, the district is sharing important tips on preventing the spread of the flu.

"We encourage everyone to take proactive steps to protect themselves and others from the flu," said Sandra Lieck, CFBISD director of health services. "By working together, we can minimize the spread of illness and ensure a healthy learning environment for our students and staff."

Key tips for staying healthy during flu season

  • Get a flu shot — The annual flu vaccine is the most effective way to prevent the flu. It is recommended for everyone six months and older. Contact your healthcare provider or local pharmacy to schedule a flu shot.

  • Practice good hygiene — Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

  • Cover your cough or sneeze — Use a tissue to cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze, or cough or sneeze into your elbow. Dispose of used tissues immediately.

  • Avoid touching your face — Germs can easily spread when you touch your eyes, nose or mouth.

  • Stay home when you are sick — If you are experiencing flu-like symptoms, stay home from school or work to prevent the spread of illness.

  • Maintain a healthy lifestyle — Eat a balanced diet, get enough sleep, and exercise regularly to strengthen your immune system.

Recognizing flu symptoms

Common flu symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, body aches, headache and fatigue. If you experience these symptoms, contact your healthcare provider.
